Staff Housing at Westside Health Center

Total Number of Units: 27
Completion Date: 2007
Location: San Simon, Tohono O'odham Nation, Arizona

PROJECT OVERVIEW
The housing development on the campus of the Westside Health Center contains:

  • 16 One Bedroom Units, each with one-car garage
  • 6 Two Bedroom Units, each with two-car garage;
  • 4 Three Bedroom Units, each with two-car garage
  • 1 Four Bedroom Unit with two-car garage.

Most of the units were designed in duplex configurations except for the Four Bedroom unit and two One Bedroom units.

Two neighborhoods, an Adult Neighborhood to the east and a Family Neighborhood to the west, were developed in cul-de-sac layout to avoid problems with through vehicular traffic, as well as creating a sense of place for each neighborhood.

The Tohono O'odham Nation, in the Joint Venture agreement with IHS, provides construction funding for the development and would also manage the complex. IHS staff would rent the housing units directly from the Nation.
